I’ve made a post on my Instagram about clean water, but wanted to elaborate more here.
Let’s talk about water. Clean water. A life source. For a lot of us in our first world countries clean water is easily accessible, but there are a lot of areas in which it’s not. I personally don’t ever drink straight from the tap because I don’t trust it to be entirely clean, from cities to rural areas clean water is an issue.
Good infrastructure is important to maintain clean water from source to source. Without that, we have issues like lead leaking into the water as in Flint, MI. or toxins from mines leaking into the water in Montana. Water infrastructure is important and something that needs to be addressed. We have the ability to fix this issue. We are privileged in our wealth and power to have access to clean water, something countries and communities all over the world do not have, so letting it go to waste is difficult, yes, but solvable. The problem is paying for it. How do you pay for an overhaul in infrastructure nationwide? Tons of people are already finding it difficult paying their water bills as it is, raising the prices would just raise the number of people unable to access clean water. With everything, I believe there is a chain of issues that need to be addressed to fix issues like this one.
On top of this, we have an administration that wants to roll back the clean water act, which keeps corporations from dumping chemical waste into our water sources. I don’t care where you align politically, you should not want your clean water, that you depend on for survival be toxic and kill you.
It’s not the only infrastructure, it’s wasting water. When I’m conscious of how lucky I am to be able to purify water or buy clean water at the store, I am conscious of not wasting it. Pouring clean water out can mean life or death to some people. It can be an act of hate. Something we, unfortunately, had to learn quite recently. (Clean) Water shouldn’t be a privilege it should be a right.
But this discussion can not occur without the discussion of how clean water is produced and given to us. Plastic bottles. Plastic. The thing we should all know the issues of. Not only is it terrible for the environment, but it’s also harmful to our health. Even BP free water bottles can contain toxins. I carry a water bottle with a purifier with me almost all the time, but sometimes I’m in a rush and forget it at home. That’s where boxed water comes into my life. @boxedwater is completely recyclable and made from well-managed forests that are replanted after harvesting. They also only use 1 truck every 26 trucks for delivery by shipping flat products to filling stations, meaning they reduced their pollution greatly in their production.
