One morning I was planting my herbs on our balcony and I heard this male goose make this domineering sound and looked up to see his wings outstretched and him in a power stance in front of a golden retriever. That is when I noticed that he was protecting mama goose and their babies. For the next three weeks, I watched mama nest and became ever increasingly protective of her and her little family.
I was lucky enough to see her first hatching. I was having a terrible day and had almost forgotten to check on her, but went out just in time.Β I started crying, it was one of the most beautiful things I’ve seen. I then watched as she hatched more of her babies and I became more and more protective.
One day the gardeners were coming around to put new mulch down and I heard the guy say to the other “hurry up before the mama comes back.” Oh no, you don’t. I ran outside and guarded her nest. The man continued to lecture me on geese and his job, but she still had two eggs and even if they didn’t hatch I was not going to let them cover up her nest. As I said, I was very protective.
Eventually, the little geese family left our little pond, but it’s still a happy little paradise to look out at with all of the birds, fish, turtles, and frogs.
